Now that COP29, the 2024 United Nations conference on global warming, has concluded, it's encouraging to see the dedication of world leaders in addressing this critical issue. But as I reflect on these efforts, I wonder, how can I, as a spiritual individual, contribute to healing our world? We all know the tangible actions we can take: reusing shopping bags, driving electric cars, recycling, or even adjusting our diets. But beyond these actions lies a deeper question: What are we really trying to save? And how are we truly trying to change?
Ultimately, we’re working to save the world by saving ourselves. We’re trying to change outdated behaviours, ultimately transforming our inner selves. It all comes back to the self—the “I”—the true source of energy within each of us. This perspective highlights the saying, “When I change, the world changes.”
At its core, our crisis is one of energy. Earth is out of balance; pollution from carbon emissions is suffocating the atmosphere, warming our planet, and causing unprecedented weather disruptions. We’re familiar with these effects. But have we asked ourselves, what about the imbalance within?
Just as Earth is straining under pollution, so too are we, as individuals, burdened with emotional clutter. Many of us attach our sense of identity to external achievements, objects, and even social media statuses. These attachments pollute the mind, leading to anxiety, stress, and a range of emotional challenges. From this emerges a kind of “global emotional warming” where stress, anger, and sadness become contagious, shared across communities and borders. The mental turbulence within us mirrors the climate instability we see in nature.
So, what can we do about this inner and outer crisis? The solution begins with reclaiming our inner balance through courage, self-awareness, and meditation. By connecting deeply with the “I,” the pure being of light within each of us, we can cultivate our divine virtues and connect with the ultimate source of energy—God. This connection grants us the strength to realign ourselves, sustaining both our spirit and the world around us.
A Meditation for Healing the Planet
This simple meditation is designed to guide you inward, helping you connect with your true self and, ultimately, to send healing vibrations to the Earth.
Sit comfortably, keeping your eyes with a soft gaze. and take a few deep breaths. Visualise yourself as a peaceful, radiant being. Feel a light shining in the middle of your forehead, and allow it to expand, filling you with peace and tranquility. Let this light bring forth a sense of power.
You are strong, complete, and whole. You are connected to your highest virtues—peace, love, and strength. Focus on the feeling of calm within. This is your true self, the “I” beyond labels and roles. Feel the clarity and purity of simply being.
Visualise a golden-red light above, a powerful energy of divine peace. Imagine this light connecting with you, filling you with an infinite supply of love and strength. This connection restores your inner balance and harmony.
Imagine this light flowing from you and merging with the energy of the Earth. Envision it spreading through the natural world, soothing the elements. Picture this energy as a calm, healing force washing over the land, the oceans, and the skies, restoring the natural balance.
Now, bring your awareness back to yourself, feeling the purity of your being and knowing that you, as a being of light, hold the power to effect change.
Through small yet powerful inner shifts, we can influence the world around us. This is the essence of tackling “global emotional warming”—healing the self to heal the Earth. Let’s remember that the power to transform starts within each of us, lighting the way toward a brighter, more balanced future for all.
