Podi Recipe

Indian Podi is a flavorful south Indian powdered condiment made with lentils, dried coconut and spices. This recipe is easy to make, as you just have to roast and then grind everything together

INGREDIENTS:

    • 1 cup Chana dal (Split Chickpeas)
    • 1/2 cup Whole Urad dal (Whole Black Gram Lentils without skin)
    • 1/4 cup dry Coconut
    • 1 tablespoon Mustard seeds
    • 1 tablespoon Jaggery
    • 1 inch Tamarind approx.
    • 1/8 tsp Hing (asafetida)
    • 3/4 tbsp Salt (as per taste)
    • 2 sprigs curry Leaves (rinse and pat dry)
    • 5 to 6 dried red Chilies
    • Oil for frying

    Instructions:

      • Clean all ingredients.
      • Fry chana dal, urad dal, coconut, mustard seeds, red chilies, curry leaves, and tamarind, and let it cool.
      • Add salt and hing and coarsely grind everything.
      • Your Podi is ready to serve.
      • Store Podi in an airtight container at room temperature.
